Red Bulls ink Spaniard Armando

[MLS 2014 COUNTDOWN] The New York Red Bulls signed Spanish defender Armando, who has spent most of his career in the Spanish second division. The 29-year-old Spaniard gives the Red Bulls added depth in the middle of the backline.

Colombian Jamison Olave and Ugandan Ibrahim Sekagya return, along with promising teenager Matt Miazga, but New York did not bring back Swede Markus Holgersson.

Armando (full name: Armando Lozano Sanchez) briefly played in Mexico with Veracruz between stints at Motril, Malaga B, Malaga, Cartagena, Barcelona B and most recently Cordoba.

“Armando provides us with another experienced option at centerback and we are delighted to have agreed to terms with him,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh in a statement. “He has played at a good level for many years, serving as the captain for Barcelona’s B team in the past, and we are excited to bring his leadership and technical qualities to our club.”
