Chandler and Onyewu score decisive goals

[AMERICANS ABROAD] A pair of World Cup longshots, both defenders, scored on Saturday. Timmy Chandler opened the scoring for Nuremberg in its 4-0 win over Hoffenheim, for which Fabian Johnson came off at the half with a broken hand. Oguchi Onyewu moved Sheffield Wednesday into the round of 16 of the English FA Cup with what proved to be the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Rochdale.

Onyewu had a shot cleared off the line in the first half, but in the 57th minute he made it 2-0 for the Owls, putting away a rebound of his own shot that had been blocked by the Rochdale defense. Joe Mattock, who scored Wednesday's first goal, was later sent off.

Onyewu joins Columbus Crew coach Gregg Berhalter and Jozy Altidore in sharing the American record for goals with most European clubs. Both have scored for five teams.

Jozy Altidore went the distance for Sunderland in its 1-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers, but he heard jeers from Black Cat fans as he again failed to score.

-- Young defender Will Packwood completed his recovery from his double leg break when he started for Birmingham City in its 2-1 loss to Swansea City in the FA Cup.

MEXICO. Edgar Castillo and Herculez Gomez were the only Americans to play for Tijuana in its 1-0 win over Morelia on Friday night. Castillo had another strong game for Xolos, which temporarily moved into a four-way tie for first place in the Liga MX. DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco went the distance in Puebla's 3-2 loss at home to Chiapas it led 2-0 at the half. Jose Torres came on after the break for Tigres against UNAM but had to leave the game in the 83rd minute when he took a knock.

NETHERLANDS. Juan Agudelo made his Eredivisie debut as a second-half sub in FC Utrecht's 1-0 loss at Roda JC. Aron Johannsson's streak of four straight games with a goal was snapped as AZ lost at PSV by the same score.
