Chandler and Onyewu score decisive goals

[AMERICANS ABROAD] A pair of World Cup longshots, both defenders, scored on Saturday. Timmy Chandler opened the scoring for Nuremberg in its 4-0 win over Hoffenheim, for which Fabian Johnson came off at the half with a broken hand. Oguchi Onyewu moved Sheffield Wednesday into the round of 16 of the English FA Cup with what proved to be the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Rochdale.

Leading Scorers (2013-14):
20+1 Aron Johannsson (AZ)
12 Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna)
8 Sacha Kljestan
(Anderlecht)
(Goals in all club competitions.)

Onyewu had a shot cleared off the line in the first half, but in the 57th minute he made it 2-0 for the Owls, putting away a rebound of his own shot that had been blocked by the Rochdale defense. Joe Mattock, who scored Wednesday's first goal, was later sent off.

Onyewu joins Columbus Crew coach Gregg Berhalter and Jozy Altidore in sharing the American record for goals with most European clubs. Both have scored for five teams.

Hopefully that goal can boost confidence and spring Chandler into form so he has a good stretch of games for the rest of the season. Would like to see this kid pin down the starting right fullback spot for the US team. Think he could be a big part of the US attack down the flank with his pace and ability. If he steps up and plays to his potential of course. Did anyone see Tim Ream play in the FA cup? Thought he looked pretty good, both on the ball and defending.

Congrats to Gooch!! May this lead to many more when he completes the transfer to MLS! He has suffered so much adversity, it is shameful.
