Liga MX outdraws EPL on U.S. TV

[SOCCER ON THE AIR] For all the hype about the popularity of the English Premier League on NBC and NBCSN, Mexico's Liga MX still outdelivers the EPL -- by a wide margin -- on the Spanish-language Univision networks.

Univision averages 991,000 viewers for the Torneo Apertura, 37 percent more than NBC, which averaged 725,000 viewers during the first part of the EPL season.

UniMás delivered an average audience of 658,000 viewers for the Liga MX, 76 percent more than than the average of 374,000 viewers for the EPL on NBCSN.

The second leg of the Club America-Leon final on Univision averaged 3.3 million viewers, the most for any league match last season. Liverpool-Arsenal, NBC’s top EPL game, which aired on Nov. 2, averaged 991,000 viewers, less than a third of what the America-Leon game from Azteca Stadium drew.
