Harrisburg lands Edinho Junior from Blackburn

[USL PRO 2014 COUNTDOWN] In need of help to rebuild its frontline that lost three players to MLS and NASL clubs, the Harrisburg City Islanders signed Portuguese U-19 forward Edinho Junior from English club Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer.    

The 5-foot-11 Edinho, who began his professional career with Olhanense in Portugal, signed a three-year contract with Blackburn in July 2012.  He played one League Championship match before being loaned out to clubs in India's I-League and England's Conference South.

The City Islanders need help up front, having lost Zimbabwean Lucky Mkosana to the NASL's Tampa Bay Rowdies, Gambian Sainey Touray to the NASL's San Antonio Scorpions and Ivorian Yann Ekra to MLS's Philadelphia Union. They combined for 28 goals in 2013.

-- City Islanders also sold defender Andrew Ribeiro to MLS's Chivas USA, while the Charlotte Eagles sent Fejiro Okiomah to the Rojiblancos and Donald Toia arrived from Phoenix FC.

-- Orlando City signed former MLS midfielder Austin Da Luz and former Orlando City U23s midfielder Joseph Toby to its 2014 USL PRO squad. Da Luz, who played for New York and D.C. United in MLS, spent the 2013 season with the NASL's Carolina Railhawks

COMBINE CONCLUDES. The USL PRO Combine at IMG Academy concluded Sunday with three games. Reading United’s Brazilian Mario Pinto scored twice to give Team 1 a 2-1 win over Team 6. Goals by Ocean City Nor’easters midfielder Kenny Tribbett and the Ocala Stampede’s Jack Bailey gave Team 5 a 2-0 win over Team 4, while Team 2 prevailed over Team 3, 1-0, on Otavio de Luca's goal.
