Everton was handed a significant boost on Monday, the day before Tuesday's Merseyside derby with Liverpool at Anfield, as left back Leighton Baines
signed a new four-year contract.
Baines had been a long-term target for Manchester United. While Baines has recovered from injury and is expected to play on Tuesday, Bryan Oviedo
, Everton coach Roberto
's other option at left back, is due to have surgery Monday for a double fracture in his left leg that could rule the Costa Rican international out of the World Cup.
