Ottawa adds pair of MLS vets

[NASL 2014 COUNTDOWN] The expansion Ottawa Fury signed forward Tom Heinemann and midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic, who have combined more more than 125 games of MLS experience. Heinemann joins Fury FC from the Vancouver Whitecaps, while Ubiparipovic comes to Ottawa from the Montreal Impact.

NASL: Preseason Schedule

Heinemann, 26, played in 14 games for the Whitecaps last season after beginning his MLS career in Columbus in 2011. He is perhaps best known for playing in two league finals in the same season, helping the Charleston Battery to the USL-2 championship in 2010 and being named MVP of the USSF Division 2 Professional League final in a losing effort for the Carolina RailHawks.

"Tom has scored with every team he's played for and at all levels in North America -- PDL, NASL, MLS," said Fury FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. "He's only reaching his prime age now and we believe he will grow a lot in our environment. He's a very hard working forward, very honest in his game and definitely a team player. He will help this organization both on and off the field."

Ubiparipovic, 30, has more than five seasons of MLS experience. His three seasons with the New York Red Bulls were highlighted by a trip to the MLS Cup 2008. In 2011, with the Montreal Impact of the NASL, Ubiparipovic was recognized by his team as the newcomer of the year.

"Sinisa, our second signing, is a very technical and gifted player," said Dos Santos. "He will bring another dimension and different options to our midfield. He's a great character with a lot of MLS experience. The type of player that any NASL expansion team would need."

STRIKERS SIGN CHIN. The Fort Lauderdale Strikers signed midfielder Shawn Chin, former Miami-Dade County High School Player of the Year at Felix Varela High School. He played college ball at Boston College and USF and professionally for FC Edmonton and the Minnesota Stars in the NASL and now-defunct USL Pro team VSI Tampa Bay FC in 2013.
