[SOCCER ON THE AIR] The USA-South Korea men's friendly was the week's fourth most-viewed program in ESPN2, while the USA-Canada women's game was the week's sixth most-viewed program the night before on Fox Sports 1.

The most-watched soccer game for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2: UniMas’ broadcast of the Mexico-South Korea game, which reached an average of 3.2 million viewers, five times the largest audience for the most-watched match on English-language television, Stoke City-Man United.

-- While the USA-South Korea game was one of the most-anticipated matches ever played in association with a U.S. January camp, the average viewership was down almost 17 percent from that for the USA-Canada game in 2013. One difference: the USA-Canada game from Houston was played in midweek in prime time, while the USA-South Korea was a Saturday afternoon game.

Soccer still has an exposure problem on US network and cable TV. ESPN and other sports cable networks do not pick up soccer matches but are showing some very obscure and minor sports. Women's Nat team games are not even picked up by TV. Soccer matches are regularly pushed back by the overrun of a previous scheduled program. We will not be where we need to be until every professional mens and womens game is televised and all national team games are shown.
