Racioppi leads U.S. U-17s to title

[NTC INVITATIONAL] The USA won the NTC Invitational Sunday with a 2-1 comeback win over Japan in the tournament's final game. It had also beaten China (4-0) and New Zealand (2-0) in what was for its three opponents a tune-up for the Under-17 Women's World Cup that begins in March in Costa Rica.

Needing to win to take the title, Japan took the lead in the 4th minute on a goal by Sugita Hina, the only goal the USA allowed all tournament.

Taylor Racioppi (PDA Clash) equalized from the penalty spot in the 29th minute after she was taken down in the area.

Racioppi was also involved in the winner, feeding speedy Mallory Pugh (PDA Clash) for the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute.

This was the last event for the '97s and '98s in Coach B.J. Snow's squad as the USA did not qualify for the 2014 U-17 Women's World Cup.

Four '99s with the team will eligible for the team seeking to qualify for the 2016 U-17 Women's World Cup.
