Horth headed to Icelandic second division

[AMERICAN ABROAD] Matt Horth, who led the NASL Atlanta Silverbacks in scoring in 2011 and 2012 and played for the MLS New England Revolution in 2013, has signed with Icelandic second division club Leiknir Reykjavik. Horth, who had re-signed with the Silverbacks in January, joins fellow American Brandon Scott at the 1. deild karla club.

"It's never easy to lose a player of Matt's quality, however, after evaluating everything, both parties decided it was in the best interest of his family and his career to pursue this opportunity," said Silverbacks Technical Director Eric Wynalda. "Standing in the way of a player pursuing his dream to play in Europe is not our policy nor our model, so we're excited that Matt has been granted this opportunity.."

The 24-year-old Horth tallied 18 goals in 49 league appearances for the Silverbacks, putting him second on the franchise's all-time scoring list.

Scott had played for Division II Saint Martin’s and the PDL's Kitsap Pumas.
