Wallace returns home to play for Rowdies

[NASL 2014 COUNTDOWN] U.S. international defender Anthony Wallace, who spent seven seasons in MLS, including time with 2010 MLS champion Colorado, has returned home and signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Wallace, who is still only 24, played for the USA at the 2007 Under-20 World Cup, where it reached the quarterfinals, and earned his first senior team cap in a friendly match against Chile in 2011. He grew up in St. Petersburg and attended USF.

He started all four Rapids playoff games in the 2010 run to MLS Cup but has been hampered by injuries in recent years.

“As a local youth soccer player, Anthony has gone on to achieve success at the premier level in the U.S.,” commented Rowdies general manager Perry Van Der Beck.  “He brings more experience and depth to our team.  He’s a technically sound player who solidifies our options defensively in the midfield.  He will be a high impact player and will be instrumental in achieving our goals for the upcoming season.”
