Rapids send Thomas to FC Dallas

[MLS TRANSACTIONS] The Colorado Rapids have finally moved defensive midfielder Hendry Thomas after they could not come to terms on a new contract. They sent the Honduran midfielder to FC Dallas for allocation money. It's the first Colorado-Dallas player trade since Rapids coach Oscar Pareja returned to Dallas as head coach.

Thomas spent one and a half seasons with the Rapids, playing 35 games and scoring two goals. He joins a crowded midfield at FC Dallas, where Andrew Jacobson, Peter Luccin (sidelined most of last season) and Michel return, and they've been joined by Scotsman Adam Moffat, acquired from Seattle in the Kenny Cooper deal.

“The allocation money that we’ve gotten in this deal will give us flexibility to continue adding strength and depth to our squad,” said Rapids technical director Paul Bravo. “We had negotiated with Hendry during the offseason but ultimately we decided to move in other directions, so we’re glad to get value in return at this point. He was an important part of our team over the last two years, and we want to thank him for his professionalism and contributions to our club.”

The trade follows the announcement that Spanish midfielder Jose Mari would be joining the Rapids for their trip to Las Vegas.
