Mexican club Cruz Azul has sent former U.S. U-20 forward Jose Villarreal
and Rafael Baca
, both former MLS players, down to its farm team, Cruz Azul Hidalgo, in the Liga de Ascenso. Neither had made a first-team league appearance.
The move will allow
both players, who signed in January along with American Gabriel Farfan
from MLS, the chance to get playing time and help Cruz Azul Hidalgo, which is currently
in third place in the second division.
Villarreal is a year-long loan, through the end of the year, from the LA Galaxy. Farfan is on a six-month loan from Chivas USA. Baca, who attended
Loyola Marymount but is a Mexican national, was sold by San Jose Earthquakes.
