UPDATE: Revs pick up Bunbury from Sporting KC
[MLS 2014 COUNTDOWN]
Sporting Kansas City has a surplus of forwards and
New England is in need of help up front, so the trade that sent Teal Bunbury
from Sporting KC to the Revs for a 2015 No. 1 draft pick and allocation money makes
all the sense in the world. Desert Diamond Cup: Game 1:

Bunbury is only 23 but already entering his fifth MLS season after Sporting KC drafted him fourth overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. He was
SKC's all-time leading scorer among active players with 19 goals.
“We’ve been very open about our desire to add some additional attacking players to our roster ahead of the
season and we believe Teal is a player who can make the sort of impact we need,” New England general manager Michael Burns
said. “He’s a
talented, young player who can add a dynamic element to our system, and we’re looking forward to getting him into camp and integrated into our group as soon as possible.”
Bunbury played as a U-17 and U-20 for Canada for which his father, Alex
, was a star, but he switched to playing for the USA, debuting at the senior level
against South Africa on Nov. 17, 2010, for the first of four caps. He later scored his first senior international goal in 2011 against Chile.
He will help the Revs, who lost Juan Agudelo
, who scored seven goals in 14 games before leaving as a free agent.
Whether he can equal Agudelo with whom he
debuted for the USA against South Africa remains to be seen.
A knee injury suffered in August 2012 sidelined Bunbury for 10 months and he never fully regained his place in the lineup at
SKC, which has one of the deepest frontlines in MLS with Claudio Bieler
, C.J. Sapong
, Soony Saad
and Dom Dywer
all back in 2014. PELLETIERI DEAL
As expected, Chivas USA signed 31-year-old defensive midfielder Agustin Pelletier
i, who last played for Argentina’s Racing Club.
“Technically, he is a very smart player who knows his position very well," says Wilmer Cabrera
, the new Chivas USA. "He is fantastic at reading the
game, and has a very good idea of how to win, possess and distribute the ball. He is a well-rounded player in all aspects.”
Pelletieri, who has played his entire career in Argentina except for a short stint with AEK Athens in Greece, joined the
Goats for the second week of preseason. He was not suited up for Wednesday's match against FC Tucson as Cabrera went with his second team.
