Republic FC passes 4,000 mark on season ticket sales

[USL PRO 2014 COUNTDOWN] Sacramento Republic FC, one of USL PRO's expansion teams, surpassed the 4,000 mark in season ticket sales and has set an internal goal of 5,000 season tickets.

Republic FC season ticket packages consist of 20 matches -- including 14 USL PRO home games, three friendlies and the potential of three playoff matches -- and range in pricing from $231 to $1,000 for an entire season.

It capped sales at a maximum of 5,000 in anticipation of its games taking place in an 8,000-seat multi-use facility at Cal Expo.

Republic FC sold out baseball's Raley Field for Sacramento Soccer Day on July 18, 2013, with 14,014 tickets. The club received 1,126 season ticket deposits on its first on-sale date a month later.

A tentative deal is in place to build an 8,000-seat stadium at Cal Expo. The deal among Ovations Fanfare, Cal Expo, which is owned by the state, and Republic FC will finance the $3 million cost of the facility.

If work is not finished in time for the start of the season, Republic FC will likely open at Sacramento City College's Hughes Stadium, a less suitable home for soccer.

Republic FC is making a push to be in the mix for an MLS expansion franchise. Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, the former NBA guard, is a supporter of the effort.
