Sporting KC rebuffs second Juve offer for Palmer-Brown

[MLS 2014 COUNTDOWN] Erik Palmer-Brown has yet to play a game for Sporting Kansas City, but he is already one of the most sought-after players in MLS. For a second time, the MLS champions have turned down an offer from Italian champion Juventus for the 17-year-old defender. For more on Sporting KC's stance, plus the Rose City Invitational and Mauro Rosales' golazo ...

Palmer-Brown spent three years in the Sporting KC academy program before turning pro at the age of 16. He spent the 2013 spring semester in the U-17 residency program and is now playing for the U.S. U-18 national team. He played for the USA in '98 age group tournaments in Italy and Azerbaijan in 2013.

“They have come back to us twice now," said Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes of the Juventus offer, "and it has gone up, obviously. Hopefully, they're not coming back with the same offer. So it's gone up each time, but it's just not something that we're willing to entertain. I've said this before and I'll say it again. We haven't had the intention to sell the player.”

TIMBERS FALL ON OWN GOAL. The San Jose Earthquakes handed the host Portland Timbers their first loss of the MLS preseason, a 1-0 decision that turned on Argentine Norberto Paparatto's own goal in his home debut at Providence Park. The opening day of the Rose City Invitational drew 13,503 fans.

Four second-half goals propelled the Vancouver Whitecaps past Jamaica's Portmore United, 5-1, in the first match at Providence Park. Defender Jordan Harvey had two goals in the second half against Portmore United, which lost Jacomeno Barrett with a straight red for handling the ball outside the box on the quarter hour mark. Jamaican Darren Mattocks had a goal and two assists for the 'Caps.
