Bayern will open New York office

[SOCCER BUSINESS] Reigning European and German champion Bayern Munich is opening an office in New York to bolster its North American presence that will include participation in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.

Colorado-born Rudolf Vidal, a goalkeeper in the Bayern youth and reserve team in the 1980s, has been appointed managing director of FC Bayern Muenchen LLC, the new overseas subsidiary. His background is in commercial law, in the areas of sports and marketing, and he joined Bayern from Deutsche Telekom.

Vidal will oversee Bayern’s push in North America, growing the FC Bayern brand and finding new partners. FC Bayern’s first overseas subsidiary will open for business on April 1.

“As a U.S.-born American national Rudolf Vidalis an ideal appointment for FC Bayern thanks to his long years of experience in sports, media and marketing,” commented Joerg Wacker, Bayern board director for international affairs and strategy. “We’re sure the great commitment and expertise of Rudolf Vidal and his team in New York will significantly advance Bayern’s internationalization program."
