England calls up teens Shaw and Sterling

[WORLD CUP 2014 COUNTDOWN] Teenagers Luke Shaw (earning his first call-up) and Raheem Sterling were among the 30 players England coach Roy Hodgson called in for the game Wednesday against Denmark. Toronto FC signing Jermain Defoe got a call-up though he missed Tottenham's Europa League game Thursday with a hamstring injury.

Shaw is one of four players from Southampton called into the squad, while Sterling plays for Liverpool, which sends five players into camp. Manchester United is the only other team with as many as five players in the team.

Other youngsters in Hodgson's squad are 22-year-old Cardiff captain Steven Caulker, a surprise call-up, plus Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who is 20 and only has three caps.

Among those not called in were Andy Carroll, Gareth Barry and Adam Johnson. Out with injuries are defenders Phil Jagielka and Phil Jones.
