D.C. United has hired Tom Hunt
from Monumental Sports & Entertainment as the club’s new chief
operating officer, replacing Michael Williamson
, who has been named chief financial officer of Inter Milan, whose owner, Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir
, also owns D.C. United.
“Tom will serve and strengthen D.C. United during a dynamic time in the club’s history,” D.C.
United co-owner Jason Levien
said in a statement. “He has a wealth of experience in professional sports and entertainment, which is crucial as
soccer continues to undergo radical growth, along with an extensive background in commercial revenue and maximizing venue opportunities.”
Hunt joins D.C. United from
Monumental Sports & Entertainment, where he has been the senior vice president of corporate partnerships since April 2011. Hunt was responsible for sponsorship initiatives for all of the
properties under the Monumental Sports umbrella, including the Washington Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, Verizon Center, Kettler Capitals Iceplex and Monumental Network. He previously worked at Turner
Broadcasting and for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.
Williamson had held the title of chief financial officer at D.C. United for five years before being named chief operating officer in
January 2013. He had previously been CFO for four years at the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
Thohir became president of Inter Milan in November 2013, and D.C. United and Inter Milan announced
the formation of a strategic partnership a month later. Thohir and Levien were introduced as D.C. United co-owners in July 2012.
