USA opens with rematch of 2012 final against Germany

[UNDER-20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP] The USA will open at the 2014 Under-20 Women's World Cup where it left off in 2012 with a match against Germany, which it beat, 1-0, to win the title. The USA was also drawn with South American champion Brazil and China in Group B at Saturday's draw held at Montreal’s Windsor Hotel.

The USA will open against Germany Aug. 5 in Edmonton and play Brazil three days later there before moving on to Montreal to close out group play against China, which it faced twice this week in friendlies in Florida.

Under-20 Women's World Cup: Schedule

The USA and Germany faced each other once in 2013 with the Germans prevailing, 3-0, in La Manga, Spain.

Host Canada will open the tournament Aug 5 against Ghana at Toronto's BMO Field. Moncton is the fourth venue for the Under-20 Women's World Cup, which will be a dress rehearsal of sorts for organizers a year ahead of the Women's World Cup, which Canada will also host.

Besides the USA, Germany and Canada, the contenders at Canada 2014 will be France, the European champion, and South Korea, the Asian champion, and Japan.
