Cristiano Ronaldo has overtaken retired former LA Galaxy star David Beckham as the world’s richest soccer player, according to the annual list of players’ net worth compiled by Goal.com, which takes into account all streams of revenue for active soccer stars over the course of their careers. The 2013 Ballon d’Or winner finished first on the list with an estimated wealth of $205 million, which is $2.8 million more than Barcelona star Lionel Messi, who finished second.
Third on the list is Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, with $117.9 million (thanks largely to the millions he earned at Anzhi Makhachkala), followed by Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney with $116.5 million. AC Milan playmaker Kaka rounded out the top five with an estimated wealth of $113.7 million. Neymar’s controversial transfer saw him rocket up the standings to sixth, while Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluigi Buffon and Thierry Henry rounded out the top 10.
