[MLS INJURY REPORT]
The 2014 MLS season is still less than a month old, and injuries are starting to mount. Last week's play saw Western Conference leader FC
Dallas, Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy all lose key players on Saturday. That was followed the next day by a freak accident that saw Whitecaps midfielder Nigel
come out on the losing side of run-in with a Vancouver bike rack.
The 29-year-old Englishman did not see where he was going on a walk around town and he suffered a
concussion and scraped his face after running into the rack. The injury should keep him out of action for Sunday's game of unbeaten teams against Houston.
In their short MLS history, the
'Caps have developed a reputation for off-the-field mishaps.
Midfielder Russell Teibert
was sidelined with a serious toe injury suffered while
riding a bike in flip-flops, and Darren Mattocks
' rookie season was marred by a kitchen accident in which he suffered severe shoulder burns while cooking a
Jamaican dish. Other injuries ...

-- Real Salt Lake's already depleted frontline got thinner as Joao Plata
, who had
scored in the first two games of the season, went off with a left hamstring strain after chasing down a ball in the 1-1 tie with the Galaxy. Already out are Robbie
, Devon Sandoval
and rookie Jordan Allen
, who had come off the bench late in the first two games to replace Plata.
-- James Riley
, who was signed by the Galaxy in preseason as cover for its backline and started at both left back and right back, is out with a torn meniscus in
his left knee. The injury was suffered in a collision with RSL's Ned Grabavoy
and came after A.J. DeLaGarza
, who was
shifted from right back to center back for the game, had to leave the match with a leg contusion
