Thorns open Tucson camp with 10-0 victory

[NWSL 2014 COUNTDOWN] Allie Long, Jessica McDonald, Meleana Shim and Rachel Van Hollebeke each scored two goals as the Portland Thorns FC opened their preseason camp in Tucson with a 10-0 over the University of Arizona before 1,774 fans at Kino Sports Complex.

Portland, which held the Wildcats without a shot on goal during the match, conclude its preseason trip to Tucson with a match against Arizona State University Sunday at Kino Sports Complex.

SATURDAY. The only NWSL team to lose to college opposition was Sky Blue FC, which fell to the University of North Carolina, 2-1. Joanna Boyles and Emily Bruder had the goals for the Heels.  Kendall Johnson had the lone goal for Sky Blue FC.

-- Toni Pressley's goal in the 37th minute gave the Washington Spirit a 1-1 tie with the visiting University of Virginia. Alexis Shaffer had put the Cavaliers ahead in the 10th minute.

-- The Houston Dash earned a comfortable 7-0 win over Texas Tech University Saturday at Houston Sports Park. Forward Tiffany McCarty led the way with two goals, while defender Arianna Romero added two assists.

-- The Boston Breakers got a penalty kick in the 88th minute from captain Cat Whitehill to defeat Boston College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.

-- Lauren Holiday scored twice to lead FC Kansas City to a 3-1 victory at Kansas University.
