U.S. WOMEN ABROAD (June 19-20): Hope Solo leads K/Goteborg in tie against Swedish champions

Former Philadelphia Charge goalkeeper Hope Solo played her finest match of the Swedish League season on Saturday, making several exceptional saves to give visiting Kopparbergs/Goteborg a 1-1 tie with first-place Djurgarden/Alvsjo.

Lotta Schelin fired K/Goteborg (4-2-3) ahead in the 28th minute, but D/A (9-0-2) -- the reigning Damallsvenskan champion -- pulled even on Ann-Marie Norlin's 61st-minute goal, a shot Solo had no chance to stop.

Solo, a former University of Washington All-American, has been critical for K/Goteborg, shutting out six foes in 10 league games.

Djurgarden/Alvsjo, with former WUSA midfielder Venus James, maintained a two-point lead on Umea IK (9-1-0), which is home against Shalevads IK on Monday.

Former Rutgers University defender Denise Reddy returned from a one-game suspension as third-place Malmo FF (8-1-2) rallied from a two-goal deficit Sunday to beat host Linkopings FC, 3-2. Jenny Engwall, Heidi Kackur and Sara Larsson scored second-half goals for Malmo.

In Russia, defending champion FC Energy Voronezh -- with former Charge defender Jenny Benson at left back -- suffered its first Supreme League loss Sunday, falling, 1-0, at Rossiyanka. Energy (3-1-4) remained atop the Russian standings despite being winless in its past three games.

Energy will begin play next month in the 2004-05 UEFA Women's Cup, facing Gomrukcu Baku (Azerbaijan), FC Scionjat (Macedonia) and host Gintra-Universitetas (Lithuania) in a first-qualifying-round group. Dates have not been announced.

In Iceland, former Charge defender Mary McVeigh was back on the field as IBV (3-0-2) remained unbeaten thanks to Erna Dogg Sigurjonsdottir's 90th-minute goal in a 1-1 tie at Por/KA/KS.

In Norway, former Charge forward Darci Borski sat Saturday as visiting Asker (4-1-3) played Toppserien leader Trondheims-Orn (7-0-1) to a 2-2 tie. Lise Klaveness and Lindy Wiik scored as Asker twice overcame deficits.
