Citing a source with the knowledge of the situation, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported
that MLS will announce on April 16 Atlanta as its next expansion franchise to
begin play in 2017 when a new $1 billion downtown football stadium opens.
MLS has been courting Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank
years. MSL Commissioner Don Garber
and Blank met at the Mexico-Nigeria friendly last month at the Georgia Dome -- the Falcons' current home -- that drew an
Atlanta record soccer crowd of 68,220.
At the game, Blank described

Atlanta, a top 10 market, would be the
third city in the Southeast MLS has announced its intentions of moving into in less than a year. Orlando City will debut in 2015, and MLS will move into Miami -- if a stadium deal is concluded.
