Sporting KC loses Opara for season with ankle injury

[MLS INJURY REPORT] Sporting Kansas City lost central defender Ike Opara for the season as he requires surgery to repair a chondral defect in his right ankle.

He suffered the injured  in a collision with Rapids midfielder Jared Watts in the 57th minute of Sporting KC's 3-2 victory at Colorado on March 29 and will have the surgery on Wednesday. He played in five of Sporting KC's first six MLS and Concacaf Champions League games to start the season. His loss will be felt as starter Matt Besler is expected to gone for at least seven MLS game while on the national team for World Cup duty.
