[SOCIAL MEDIA WATCH] Three women's players at Fairfield University, all natives of Long Island, launched a twitter handle SoccerGirlProblems (
@SoccerGrlProbs) in 2011 to tweet humorously about their soccer problems and three years later the handle has 184,000 followers.
Carly Beyar,
Shannon Fay and
Alanna Locast started tweeting out the little things like
complaints about practice, social plans being interfered with by soccer and the bond players have with teammates, and Soccer Girl Problems soon took on a life of its own
Beyar and Fay,
who will graduate from Fairfield this spring, and Locast have developed it into a brand, selling Soccer Girl Problems merchandise through their website,
SoccerGrlProbs.com, and posting videos with their own YouTube channel where the group acts out short comedy bits revolving around the life of a soccer
player.
Says Locast, who graduated from Fairfield in 2011: “While the main focus is humor, it’s become a unifying thing among all ages of soccer players.”
