What They're Saying

“You have to attend the World Cup to [understand] what it means. It’s the most unusual sporting event I’ve ever attended, and I’ve attended thousands. … It’s in the air, it’s a palpable sense of energy that I’ve never quite experienced. It’s the most consequential sporting event in the world. … We have our Super Bowl, we have our World Series, the NBA Finals, March Madness, but my Lord, there is nothing quite like the World Cup.”

-- Vice President Joe Biden, who announced plans to attend the World Cup in Brazil, speaking at the World Cup trophy tour in Washington. (Washington Post)

Well, this is about the worst thing ol' Joe can do in June. Maybe he can just send his family incognito, instead of presenting an official American political face for potential protestors to target.

I live in Florida, where two MLS teams folded for lack of fans. I saw nothing on the news regarding the World Cup Trophy Tour, although it's in the state today. But, glory be, our Vice Ptesident gets it! The Beautiful Game played by nationalities from all over the world. It's different from the Olympics...it's the world's favorite game!!! The Brazilians have been protesting and apparently plan to continue against their own government. No reason for them to turn on Biden. I don't care if he goes or not, I'm just glad there's someone in our government who understands, and honors, what this tournament means to the world!!! Well said, Joe!
