U.S. U-20s sweep group play with win over Tigres

[DALLAS CUP] The U.S. under-20 national team beat Tigres of Mexico, 1-0, and moved into the semifinals of the Gordon Jago Super Group at the 35th annual Dr Pepper Dallas Cup. The USA, winner of all three group games, will play Fluminense of Brazil in Friday's semifinals.

Game 1: USA 3 River Plate 2
Game 2: USA 3 Eintracht Frankfurt 0

Rubio Rubin, who will officially join Dutch club FC Utrecht when he is eligible to be registered on July 1, scored the game's lone goal off an assist from Shaquille Moore just before the half.

Tab Ramos started a team that included players from pro clubs in MLS, the NASL, well as teams in Mexico and England, plus two players in college and two in high school.

U.S. starting XI -- Steffen; Moore, Miazga, Amick, Requejo, Gooch, Arriola, Allen, Lopez, Rubin, Spencer.

-- River Plate of Argentina finished second in the USA's group, good enough for a wild-card berth into the semifinals of Coritiba of Brazil, which knocked off defending champion Fulham 3-0.

In other action on Wednesday, both MLS academy clubs were winners: FC Dallas 2-0 over  IF Brommapojkarna of Sweden, and the LA Galaxy 4-1 over Chivas de Guadalajara.

    These players will be in their early-mid 20's in World Cup Year 2022. Hope springs eternal. Then there is 2026.

    Problem is, this is our whole country vs just one team of each of their opponents.
