Will one-goal lead be enough for Real Madrid?

[UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] Karim Benzema's goal in the 19th minute gave Real Madrid a 1-0 win over defending champion Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal, but it may not be enough to get the nine-time champions to the final for the first time in 12 years against Bayern, which had a huge edge in possession.

Real Madrid had other chances in the first half from Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria but could not add to its lead.

Bayern had a 64-36 percent edge in possession and completed more than twice as many passes (841-410), but its only real chance came late when Mario Goetze was denied by Iker Casillas from close range.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said the result was a good one, considering Ronaldo was not at full strength. He missed the last four games with knee and thigh muscle problems and left in the 73rd minute.

"We did not want to run any risks and tire out the muscle," Ancelotti said. "Cristiano played well. He wasn't at 100 percent but he sacrificed himself a lot and on Tuesday he will be better, just like [Gareth] Bale. We are happy to have him [Ronaldo] back. He worked very hard to help the team."
