Press scores twice to lead Tyreso into final

[UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] For Americans Christen Press, Whitney Engen and Meghan Klingenberg, the decision to stick with bankrupt Tyreso for its UEFA Women's Champions League campaign paid off as the Swedish club beat Birmingham City Ladies, 3-0, to reach the final by the same score on aggregate. Press scored twice to move Tyreso in the final against defending champion Wolfsburg May 22 in Lisbon.

The goals were the eighth and ninth of the Women's Champions League season for Press, who will join the Chicago Red Stars this summer. Former FIFA Women's Player of the Year Marta, who had earlier missed a penalty kick, completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Tyreso, which has never reached the final, built a multinational team that include a Finn, a Dane and a Spaniard, Veronica Boquete, also bound for the NWSL, as well as the three Americans and the Brazilian Marta in the starting lineup, but it was forced to file bankruptcy this spring, needing the support of the Swedish government to stay afloat.

In an all-German clash, Wolfsburg beat Turbine Potsdam, 4-2, to win the other semifinal by the same score on aggregate.
