[AMERICANS ABROAD] Emerson Hyndman, the grandson of former SMU and FC Dallas head coach
Schellas Hyndman, scored the winning goal for Fulham in its 3-2 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the English FA Youth Cup final at Craven Cottage.
All the goals came in
the second half as
Moussa Dembele, Hyndman and
Cameron Burgess scored in succession for Fulham after
Jay Dasilva put Chelsea ahead.
Charly Musonda scored a critical second goal for the visitors late in the game to the
disappointment of the crowd of 4,457 fans on hand for the West London derby. Dembele had missed a penalty kick in the first half.
Hyndman's goal came in the 71st minute when his shot
deflected off Danish defender
Andreas Christensen.
In July 2013, Hyndman signed a new contract with Fulham that will keep him at the English club
until June 2016. The 18-year old midfielder was part of Fulham's under-18 team that won back-to-back Barclays Premier League championships last season. He joined Fulham in 2011.
The
second leg will be played at Stamford Bridge next Monday.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Wonder where Emerson got his soccer talent. It sure helps when your grandfather is an elite coach and high quality professional.
