Brazil's Federal Police Threaten World Cup Strike

Federal police in Brazil are threatening a nationwide strike during the World Cup if the government doesn’t increase officers’ pay and improve working conditions, the Associated Press reports. As national team coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was announcing his 23-man squad for the tournament, officers staged a protest rally outside the concert hall where the announcement was being held, holding life-size inflatable white elephants to symbolize the high costs that the World Cup has brought to a country with deficient public services.
