England goes with youth, Defoe put on standby

[WORLD CUP 2014] England coach Roy Hodgson picked just sic players from the 2010 World Cup team for his 23-player squad for this year's finals in Brazil. As expected, Toronto FC's Jermain Defoe was not in the first 23. He's one of seven players on standby.

Forward Wayne Rooney, midfielders Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and James Milner, defender Glen Johnson and and goalkeeper Joe Hart are the only holdovers from four years ago.

The squad includes 18-year-old Southampton defender Luke Shaw, 19-year-old Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling and 20-year-old Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.
