[UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE]
Real Madrid rallied from 1-0 down with the equalizer in stoppage time and scored three times in the second overtime period to beat Atletico
Madrid, 4-1, in the UEFA Champions League final for its record 10 European title.
Uruguayan Diego Godin
, whose goal was decisive in Atletico's
title clincher against Barcelona a week earlier, put Atletico in the 36th minute, and the goal stood up until the third minute of stoppage time when Sergio
scored on a header that gave Real Madrid new life.
Atletico never looked it could hold on after that and Gareth Bale
put Real Madrid
ahead on a header off a rebound after Angel Maria
broke through a tired Atleti defense. Sub Marcelo broke down the middle and added a third goal before Cristiano Ronaldo
scored from the penalty spot.
The title was Real Madrid's first since 2002. "It is a reward for all the sacrifice and the fight we have
shown over the years," said Sergio Ramos.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti
won European titles twice as a player and coach with AC Milan and is just the second
coach after Liverpool's Bob Paisley
to win the title three times.
