[NWSL: Week 8] The expansion Houston Dash's frustrating start to the NWSL season continued as it dropped a 3-2 decision
Monday afternoon at the Washington Spirit on
Christine Nairn's goal in the 93rd minute after it had twice come back from one-goal deficits.
Canadian
Diana Matheson and Englishwoman
Jodie Taylor also scored for the Spirit, but
Nina Burger and
Osinachi Ohale responded for the Dash, which dropped to 1-7-1.
Week 7 Rewind
... SUNDAY. For the second time this week,
Kim Little and
Amy
Rodriguez scored to remain tied for the NWSL lead with eight goals. Little scored off a corner kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time as Seattle earned a 2-2 tie with Western New York to
stay unbeaten after nine games. Rodriguez added a late goal as FC Kansas City defeated last-place Boston, 2-0, to hand the Breakers their third straight loss at home.
Twice the Flash went
ahead on goals by U.S. internationals
Abby Wambach and
Carli Lloyd, and twice the Reign came back, first on a goal by
Jessica Fishlock, for its second straight tie after seven wins. The game drew 4,061 fans at Memorial Stadium.
The Breakers drew their largest
crowd of the season at Harvard Stadium -- 2,622 fans -- but they suffered their sixth loss in seven games on second-half goals by
Nikki Phillips and
Rodriguez.
SATURDAY. U.S. national team veteran
Kelley O'Hara scored on a
pass from
Christie Rampone in the 84th minute to give Sky Blue FC a 1-0 win at the Portland Thorns before 13,427 fans.
Alex
Morgan dressed for the Thorns for the first time this season but did not play.
FRIDAY. The expansion Houston Dash finally got its first goal at
BBVA Compass Stadium, but it wasn’t enough to get its first result at home as it fell 3-1 to the Chicago Red Stars, who moved into second place with the win.
The key play came in
the 32nd minute when the Dash earned a penalty but Chicago keeper
Erin McLeod stopped
Becky Edwards. Vanessa DiBernardo,
who converted a spot kick, and
Jen Hoy each had a goal and assist for Chicago.
Eli Masar, who scored the
first-ever goal in Dash history in Boston on April 20, had the equalizer for Houston and celebrated the first home goal by removing her jersey and sliding to the corner flag. Three minutes later,
Alyssa Mautz put Chicago ahead for good.
Dash head coach
Randy Waldrum was ejected by referee
Timon Berry after the third Chicago goal scored by Hoy.
