[CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] The New York Red Bulls drew the winner of Amway Canadian Championship, either Toronto FC or the Montreal Impact, in group play of the
2014-15 Concacaf Champions League. For all the results of Wednesday's draw in Miami.
MLS's four U.S. teams, and the four Mexican clubs, including defending champion Cruz Azul, were
separated in the draw. Cruz Azul drew Alajuelense of Costa Rica, the lone club from last season's quarterfinals the eight U.S. and Mexican clubs could have drawn.
The Portland Timbers
have perhaps the toughest draw of the other MLS clubs, having to play Honduran powerhouse Olimpia and facing a trip to Guyana to face Alpha United.
MLS champion Sporting Kansas City, a
2013-14 quarterfinalist, will face Saprissa, another traditional Costa Rican power, and Real Esteli of Nicaragua.
D.C. United, the only MLS club in this year's field that has won a
regional title, faces Tauro FC of Panama and Waterhouse FC of Jamaica.
The groups will be contested on a round-robin, home-and-away, four-game format over three months
(August-October). Only the eight group winners will progress to the quarterfinals, which will kick off in early 2015.
