[BRAZIL 2014] Real Salt Lake striker
Alvaro Saborio, one of just three holdovers from Costa Rica's 2006 World Cup roster,
fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot at the Ticos' practice Thursday morning that will keep him out of the 2014 World Cup.
Saborio will miss 3-4 months due to the injury.
He'll return to Salt Lake City from Costa Rica’s camp in the next few days to be further evaluated by Real Salt Lake’s medical staff.
Saborio scored eight times in the
2014 World Cup qualifying cycle though he wasn't necessarily expected to start for the Ticos, who face England, Italy and Uruguay in Brazil. He has scored 32 goals in 93 international matches. Costa
Rica's other main strikers are
Joel Campbell and
Bryan Ruiz.
