Spain coach Vicente del Bosque on Thursday sounded more confident that Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa would be able to make the final cut when he unveils the reigning world champion’s final 23-man squad for the tournament on Saturday.
Costa struggled with a recurring hamstring injury in the final part of last season, in which Atletico lifted the La Liga title and made it to the UEFA Champions League final, where it lost, 4-1, to Real Madrid in overtime.
Del Bosque worked very hard to convince the Brazilian-born striker to commit to playing for Spain, which he did last fall. "The outlook is good," the Spain coach said on Thursday. "On Friday they will have tests. We will make the decision on Saturday morning."
