Eddie Lewis takes team to Lisbon

[USA UNDER-18 MEN] Former U.S. World Cup midfielder Eddie Lewis is guiding the U.S. under-18 men’s national team on its annual trip to the U-18 International Tournament in Lisbon, Portugal. The squad includes highly regarded Mukwelle Akale (Villarreal), Rubio Rubin (FC Utrecht) and Dembakwi Yomba (Atletico Madrid), who have all signed pre-contracts with European clubs, plus goalie Jonathan Klinsmann, son of the U.S. World Cup coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Lewis will serve as head coach while U-18 head coach Javier Perez assists with the senior national team as it prepares for the World Cup in Brazil.

Rubin will officially be registered at Utrecht on July 1, while Akale, who was named the tournament MVP at the Copa del Atlantico in February in the Canary Islands, and Yomba must wait until they turn 18 to be eligible to sign with their Spanish clubs.

Other players in the U-18 squad include Tommy Redding, who debuted with USL PRO leader Orlando City, and RSL AZ scoring star Sebastian Saucedo. Mauricio Pineda, one of three players from the Chicago Fire Academy, is the lone player playing in his first international competition.

Jonathan Klinsman is actually getting the call up after douche bagging Landon Donovan. So getting his phone taken away by Daddy was it huh. He cant miss one cycle. Man if I was a u18 goalie in the national team pool I would be pissed! US soccer does not invest in there pool anyway. They identify, than robotically choose the same kids over and over. Im really disapointed in this decision. He should have been left out to show him a lesson in respect. This is just icing on the cake for major slap in the face of US soccer players.

With this,in few years to come,I see the USA a world beater in soccer. Since it is now known to me that there are soccer academies in USA that have churned out great talents like these,is there any possibilities of getting prospectve young talents in my area here in Jos,Plateau State,Nigeria, registered with your academies over there? Thanks a lot for the unbeatable soccer updates. Waiting to hear from you.
