Colombia's Falcao loses comeback bid

[BRAZIL 2014] Radamel Falcao won't be going to the World Cup. The Colombian star's bid to recover from a knee injury suffered in a French Cup match against an amateur team in January ended as he was left off Coach Jose Pekerman's 23-player roster.

Pekerman said he's wait until the June 2 deadline to see if Falcao was fit, but the Monaco star said ''the smartest thing to do'' was to continue his recovery. Pekerman called it "the saddest day I've had since becoming Colombia coach."

''I had great hope to play," said Falcao, "but, well, one has to support the team from outside and wish it the best."

Two former Philadelphia Union players -- Faryd Mondragon and Carlos Valdes -- made the Colombia 23.
