The World Cup Countdown: Spain's Costa returns

[BRAZIL 2014] David Villa, who will join New York City FC next season, scored in the 60th and 88th minutes to give Spain a 2-0 win over El Salvador in their friendly that drew more than 50,000 fans at Fedex Field in Landover, Md., but the biggest news for Spanish fans, though, was that Diego Costa played 74 minutes in his first warm-up action for Spain.

The Brazilian-born striker has been hobbled with a hamstring injury for the last month, having had to come out of Atletico Madrid's La Liga finale and UEFA Champions League final.

ENGLAND FRUSTRATED. To say the least, England got more than it bargained for when it chose Miami as its base for its final World Cup preparations. Rains forced the English inside on the first day of camp, and their match against Honduras was delayed 40 minutes because of lightning. Despite the 0-0 tie against the Catrachos, who finished with 10 players, England coach Roy Hodgson concentrated on the big picture.

"It's time for the real thing now," he said after England's second 2-2 tie in Miami. "Everyone is fit, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is making progress and I think he will make the tournament. Honduras were quite physical and it was one of the most frustrating games I have been involved in for a long time."

Honduras defender Brayan Beckeles was sent off in the 66th minute.

GONZALEZ RED CARDED. Costa Rica had Columbus Crew defender Giancarlo Gonzalez sent off early in the second half of the Ticos' 1-1 tie with Ireland at Red Bull Arena for an elbow to Kevin Doyle that required five stitches to close the head wound.
