John Oliver has bad news for U.S. fans

[VIDEO PICK: Comedy] HBO comedian John Oliver went on NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk all things soccer. The World Cup. FIFA. Malaria pills. England's chances. The USA's chances. And Jurgen Klinsmann's decision to drop Landon Donovan: "The has never been a more German decision in the history of the sports."

Oliver likes the USA -- "they got a really good young team" -- but hates the draw. "I would prepare yourselves for winning zero out of three games," he says.

John Oliver is one of the best soccer (football) commentators I have ever heard. The line on Klinsie and Landon is one of the truthiest.

    Brilliant!

Regarding Landon, he wasn't cutting the mustard when the cut was made. Perhaps he'll think again about taking a break before the WC roster building. Klinsmann had to take the best.

A fresh view and perspective. Oliver breathes the game while US commentary suffocates it.

Andrea, regarding Donovan, he has served his country for 16 years and been our best player through much of that time. He fully accepted that he may come off the bench for the last 15-20 minutes this time around. The top players agreed he was in the top 23 in camp. They've moved on, as they should. This is revenge. Klinsmann took Donovan to Bayern and it was a bad decision. If you look at how Klinsmann treated Mathaeus' legacy at Bayern, how he treated Martin Vasquez this past spring, and how he treated Donovan, it's pretty clear there can be only one star, and that's Klinsmann. Having said all that, I like our team and I hope we can hang in there. In this group, we could play very well and come away with no results. JK's contract is until 2018 so he's not too worried about it! But hey, 20 minutes to go, down 1-0, bring on Donovan. Oh, wait, let's go to Plan B...

BTW, I hope John Oliver's predictions on the US team's hopes for this WC are wrong as hell, even though I fear he is right. Go USA

Funny...where is the romanticsm in the USA prediction? English are hopelessly pessimistic :-). I suppose both German calculation and English pessimism are unromantic, eh?
