What's the difference between a margin and a combined margin?

Why don't these TV ESPN coverages much feature the match temperatures on the field with actual fahrenheit temperature, humidity at the start of the match and at the start of the second half? That is vital information. We can only assess and place into context the levels of play, sprinting, pace, the number of cutbacks, etc. when we know what the players on the pitch are contending with. Please. How many matches have now kicked off with real field level temperatures at over 85 or 90 degrees already? That explains the pedantic paces of such matches as France-Nigeria and Argentina-Switzerland in the first halves.

  4. Albert Harris, July 3, 2014 at 10:21 a.m.

I think that kind of information is usually mentioned in the commentary so it is possible to miss it, I guess. I agree it is something a good commentator would mention. I hope though that it doesn't become one more "bug" appearing on the screen that we have to peek around to see the action.

  5. G O, July 4, 2014 at 1:30 a.m.

Right, Mr. Harris. Sorry, I did not mean it that way. I also would not want a permanent temperature display on the TV screen, like somewhere near the official match clock. The screen is already too filled with extraneous items. I just mean a field level weather info graphic in the 15 - 20 minutes prior to the start of game walk out & anthems and then one done also 45 seconds or so (and up for just 10 - 12 seconds) prior to the second half kickoff. I think we are seeing a lot of lethargic play and rapidly declining energy in players for the final 15 match minutes for a number of reasons, but a key factor is the debilitating heat/humidity/dew points. This will once more be a favor in the matches hosted in Salvador and Fortaleza.

    ROBBEN = DIVER

Here's hoping Arjen quits his theatrical dives... now that Neymar Jr. is gone (sorry his back is broke and all that), Robben is the undisputed diver left in the tournament... I love how Lio Messi always tries to stay up... take a lesson from Lio, Arjen

    Rodriguez is incompetent.
He kicked Italy out of the WC by expelling Marchisio in the game against Uruguay and did not even card the vampire Suarez - disgusting- worst ref since Moreno in 2002. Maybe his charge now is to kick out Germany.
If the Marchisio standard had been applied to Brazil Columbia by the incompetent ref of that game, Brazil would have been down to 2 men by half time and Neymar would not have a broken back when Columbia started to retaliate.
    Refs must be consistent.
FIFA (incompetent and corrupt see Qatar) should allow instant replay review of fouls so that this is the last WC to be ruined by incompetent and inconsistent referring.

  8. David Mont, July 7, 2014 at 7:42 p.m.

42 years ago was 1972. Was there a WC in 1972 that no one knows about?

  9. David V, July 9, 2014 at 7:59 p.m.

Worst Ref is HOWARD WEBB... do a google search for a photo or movie of "Xabi Alonso Nigel DeJong 2010 WC"... 3 clear red cards in the first quarter of the game in 2010... why is he still here?

  10. Santiago 1314, July 10, 2014 at 10:52 a.m.

Quote from Jurgen Klinsmann in article by Randy Harvey of the Houston Chronicle Sports..7/10/14 pgC1&3….”It makes them feel accountable, not just walk away with a bad performance and nothing happens,” he said. “If you have a bad performance, then people should approach you and tell you that, to make sure that next game is not bad anymore and you step it up.”… The Article is about the National Humiliation that Brazil feels and How (THE USA PLAYERS) don’t have that kind of pressure…***JURGEN*** FIRST, YOU Parked the Bus In-Front of the Goal(Didn’t BELIEVE USA Could Win)… THEN, YOU Re-Arranged the Chairs on the TITANIC(No Sub for Jozy)…and NOW, YOU are Throwing the Players OUT of the Bus, for the Dogs to Eat…<<< THROW YOURSELF OUT >>>…OH, but Knowing you, You will Take a Helicopter Ride Off the Top of the Bus, so you don’t have to face the Wolves…I was for Keeping You, Hoping you would Learn some Humility…But Asking for Fans to Accost the Players and Frighten them into Better Performance!?!?!?…WHAT AN ARROGANT, JERK, PRICK, You are !!!!...What a Hypocrite!!!…YOU Left Germany because YOU couldn’t take the Magnifying Glass that YOU were under and because YOU liked the anonymity that Athletes have in the USA… NOW YOU WANT TO HAVE THE FANS DO YOUR JOB !!!… <<<< Come on SUNIL… Enough is Enough…GET RID OF HIM!!!! >>>> THIS IS AMERICA!!! and WE BELIEVE WE CAN WIN and WE CAN DO IT OUR WAY… so PISS OFF back to Germany…Oh, They don’t want you their either…!!!

  11. Albert Harris, July 10, 2014 at 11:07 a.m.

Santiago: You're posting this rant in every comment section involving the WC. I sympathize with what you're say and I have problems with JK's management "style" too, but enough is enough. Reading the same thing in 3 different comment sections (so far) is a bit much. Post it in the one that seems most applicable and move on. Thank you for understanding. (hopefully)

Good point. Apology accepted. Just having a crabby day here I guess,,,lol

  14. Gus Keri, July 12, 2014 at 1:31 p.m.

Correction: This is Argentina's 5th final appearance. Record 2-2. They won twice; 1978 and 1986 and lost twice; 1930 and 1990.

  15. Gus Keri, July 15, 2014 at 10:38 a.m.

It should be noted, though, that Neymar finished 3rd on the goal-scoring table, winning the Bronze shoe, ahead of Messi. They were tied on goal and assists but Neymar played less minutes, the next tie-breaker.
