Germany started this World Cup by trouncing Portugal, 4-0, as Thomas
scored a hat trick while the German goal was hardly threatened. A dream start. But Coach Joachim Loew
knows well that a fine first-game
performance doesn't guarantee a smooth path.
Four years ago in South Africa, Germany routed Australia, 4-0, only to fall, 1-0, to Serbia, making the final group game a nail-biter against
Ghana that was settled with a 60th minute Mesut Ozil
goal for a 1-0 win.
This time Germany faces Ghana in the second game and the Black Stars are
desperate after falling, 2-1, to the USA.
"It will be a game Ghana will play like a final," said Loew. "We have continue to attack and defend as a team. Even in high temperatures Ghana
will run for 90 minutes."
Loew may give veteran midfield motor Bastian Schweinsteiger
his first start of the tournament while Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah
is under pressure, after using them as subs against the USA, to start veterans Michael Essien
and Kevin Prince-Boateng
, who will be facing his half-brother, Jerome Boateng
