Bleus begin to win back French TV audiences

[SOCCER ON THE AIR] France's 5-2 victory over Switzerland drew 16.7 million viewers on TF1, the most viewers for a World Cup match since the 2006 final the Bleus lost to Italy on penalty kicks.

-- Germany's 2-2 tie with Ghana on Saturday was watched by 24.5 million viewers on ARD for the second largest audience of the 2014 World Cup on German television after 26.4 million viewers for Germany-Portugal -- the largest audience for a sports broadcast in 2014. More than 76 percent of Germans watching television were tuned into the Germany-Ghana game.

-- The England-Italy match in Manaus attracted 14.2 million on BBC1 in the UK and 12.8 million on Italy's RAI 1, the highest TV audiences in both countries in 2014.

In Europe, the two matches of the day air in prime time, but the third match kicks off late at night.

-- The Japan-Ivory Coast game, which kicked off at 10 a.m. local time in Japan,  drew au audience 34.1 million  viewers, twice the size of the next biggest sports broadcast of 2014.
