NBA Prospect Criticized for Supporting Ronaldo, Portugal

Kansas Center and highly touted NBA draft prospect Joel Embiid, a native of Cameroon who has lived in the USA since the summer of 2012, made a few enemies on Sunday when he tweeted congratulations to Cristiano Ronaldo for his last-gasp assist in the USA’s 2-2 draw with Portugal at the World Cup. Embiid, who went from a probable No. 1 pick to a major risk after suffering a stress factor in his right foot, received a lot of criticism for celebrating a less-than-ideal outcome for the U.S. His tweet, “Ronaldo my boy #halamadrid”, was met with such responses as: “If it wasn’t for the USA you’d still be living in a third world country, show some respect.”
