Scolari: 'Neymar as Important to Brazil as Messi is to Argentina'

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari on Monday said that Neymar is as important to Brazil as Lionel Messi is to Argentina after he scored twice as Brazil won Group A with a 4-1 win against Cameroon. The Barcelona forward gave Brazil the lead after 17 minutes when he guided home a Luiz Gustavo cross before scoring his fourth goal of the tournament with a fine solo effort after 35 minutes.

"Brazil depends on Neymar like Argentina dependson Messi," Scolari said during his post-game press conference. "They are players who are different and can make the difference for their respective teams. Neymar is a point of reference to Brazil, like Messi is to Argentina."

Despite narrowly avoiding a date with the Netherlands, Scolari said that Brazil would not underestimate Chile, which fell 2-0 to the Netherlands on Monday, finishing second in Group B to the Dutch. "Many thought that Chile wouldn't make it out of their group, but I'm not surprised. They have a lot of quality. If I had had the chance to choose an opponent I would have picked another team. I would have preferred not to meet Chile. It is always difficult to play against South American opposition. Chile have a lot of individual quality and are very well organized."

The Brazil-Chile game will take place in Belo Horizonte on Saturday.
