Thomas Mueller, Germany’s top scorer with three goals in the World Cup so far, said that Germany must be cautious against the USA when the two teams meet in a top-of-the-table Group Gclash on Thursday. Germany heads into the match level on points with the USA, but with a superior goal differential of +3.

Muller, who suffered a gash to his right eye that required fivestitches in the closing stages of Germany’s 2-2 draw with Ghana on Saturday, is once again expected to lead the forward line for Germany on Thursday. “We want to play well, try not to concedegoals and win the group, but you have to very cautious,” he said prior to Germany’s departure for the game in Recife, noting that a big loss could result in an early departure.

TheBayern Munich forward noted that he is not a traditional striker in Germany’s “false nine” formation. “The way we play is to switch positions a lot and create space for others,”Muller said. “I never really had a fixed position anyway, I’ve played on the right wing for the national team before, I would have no problem doing it again.”
