Liverpool Legends: Suarez Has Shamed Our Club

While Liverpool remains silent about FIFA’s ongoing investigation into Luis Suarez’s latest biting episode, former Liverpool players think the Uruguayan should be kicked out of Anfield. Video evidence suggests that Suarez did indeed bite Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 win on Tuesday, and FIFA is expected to make its ruling on the matter by the end of day Thursday. He faces anywhere from a two-game to a 24-month, or two-year, ban if found guilty.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, for one, thinks Suarez needs to go, because his actions are reflecting badly on the club.  "You can't defend him. He's continually dragging the club's name through the mud," the former Reds striker tells the Sun. "I wouldn't be surprised if Suarez left now. He's a different person on the pitch and you can't condone what he's done. I'm flummoxed. It's not right, especially after the club helped him last time [after he bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last year]. They tried to rehabilitate him."

Phil Thompson, a former Liverpool captain, who lifted the 1981 European Cup with the club, blasted Suarez for bringing "embarrassment and shame on our club.” He added: "This was a kick in the face when you think of the massive support the guy has had from manager Brendan Rodgers, owner John Henry and the Liverpool fans," he told the Sun. "It's happened on the international stage, and everyone is looking at this and wanting to see what happens. For him to do this is a massive shock. It's disgraceful, to be honest."
