Sergio Aguero’s World Cup future is uncertain after the Manchester City striker was withdrawn from Argentina’s 3-2 win against Nigeria with a muscle problem in his left thigh. After the game, coach Alejandro Sabella confirmed that Ezequiel Lavezzi would replace Aguero if he is unable to play in Tuesday’s round of 16 game versus Switzerland.

“ElKun [Aguero] had a muscular problem,” Sabella said in his post-game press conference on Wednesday. “It will be looked at tomorrow. We will see. We have attackers who can play, or those who come infrom wide. Lavezzi did not just make it difficult for them with his runs, but he also contributed to the team.”

Meanwhile, forward Lionel Messi, who struck twice in the win againstNigeria, noted in an interview with Ole that Argentina’s attack is improving. “We forwards did not find these spaces in the previous games,” the Barcelona striker said. “We corrected thatagainst Nigeria, so we were able to create more chances. But now we must work in defense to not concede goals. You cannot make mistakes now, because one game can leave you out of the competition. Thegood thing is we improved. We were playing against a team which has good players. You saw a good Argentina, but we want more.”
